The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) was founded in November 1859 and today serves 184,640 residents in the unincorporated areas of the county. As the largest full service sheriff’s office in Colorado, the agency has 519 sworn deputies and 212 non-sworn employees who provide services to the community.

Sheriff Krueger currently works with a staff of some 40 employees, both civilian and law enforcement. His responsibilities include maintaining: a jail facility that can house nearly 80 inmates, a dispatch center for all law enforcement agencies within the county, as well as fire and ambulance; court security; civil process; animal control; and patrol functions.

Alpine Rescue Team

Since 1959, Alpine Rescue Team has been providing Search and Rescue services to the residents of Jefferson and Clear Creek Counties at no cost to the county or those it rescues. Alpine is also one of the most active teams in assisting other SAR teams in search and rescue missions throughout the state of Colorado.
